Big South Conference Announces Football Players Of The Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ( – Stony Brook running back Miguel Maysonet (Riverhead, N.Y.) has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Football Offensive Player of the Week, while Gardner-Webb defensive lineman Maurice Dickson (Hillside, N.J.) has been selected as Defensive Player of the Week for games played the ninth week of the regular-season.  Gardner-Webb punter Graham Purvis (Shallotte, N.C.) is the Special Teams Player of the Week and Presbyterian College linebacker Donelle Williams (Starke, Fla.) is The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week.

Maysonet rushed for 191 yards on 26 carries (7.3 average) and scored three touchdowns in the Seawolves’ 42-0 win over Coastal Carolina.  He had touchdown runs of 9, 1 and 26 yards and also had a long rush of 34 yards in the game.  It was Maysonet’s second game this season with more than 190 rushing yards, as well as his second outing with at least three TDs in a game.  He helped Stony Brook gain 446 rushing yards against the Chanticleers, the second-highest total in a Big South game in League history.

Dickson came off the bench to register a career-high 10 total tackles and a school-record 3.5 sacks in Gardner-Webb’s 14-7 win over Charleston Southern.  He finished with a personal-best 4.5 tackles-for-loss of 25 yards and accounted for four of Gardner-Webb’s 11 quarterback hurries.  Dickson had six tackles and all 3.5 sacks in the first half, helping to limit the Buccaneers to 17 rushing yards at that point.

Purvis helped Gardner-Webb win the field position battle during a defensive struggle vs. Charleston Southern.  He punted 11 times for a Big South single-game record 497 yards (45.2 average) and launched two of the longest punts in League history – a 67-yarder and a school- and Big South-record 85-yard punt.  Purvis’s 67-yarder came with less than a minute to play in the first half and forced CSU to take a knee with the game tied at 7-7.  His 85-yarder occurred in the fourth quarter with the Runnin’ Bulldogs clinging to the 14-7 advantage.  The long kick reached the CSU goal line and flipped the field for the GWU defense.

Williams posted a career-high 18 total tackles in the Blue Hose’s 27-20 double overtime loss at Liberty.  He finished with 10 solo tackles and eight assisted stops in recording his second double-digit tackle game this season.  Williams had three-straight stops on Liberty’s second drive to force a punt.
