Ferber Named NESCAC Co-Player of the Week

AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst College senior lineman Kevin Ferber (Mahwah, N.J.) has been named the NESCAC Defensive Co-Player of the Week for leading the Lord Jeffs during Saturday’s 31-18 win at Williams College’s Weston Field.

Ferber recorded 4.0 sacks for a total loss of 27 yards and recovered a fumble in the end zone for a game-changing touchdown, setting the school’s single-season sack record along the way. The Jeffs held the Ephs to six first-half points and stopped their archrivals on four 4th-down situations in the game.

After recording a second sack with less than seven minutes to play in the fourth quarter, it seemed Ferber would come up just shy of the program record. With 3:38 remaining in regulation he led his defense back on the field for the final time of his career, picking up sack number 10 when he took down the Williams quarterback for a loss of seven yards. He added another for good measure two plays later, setting the new program standard at 11.0.

Ferber’s fumble recovery came on the Ephs’ second drive of the third quarter, as he pounced on a loose ball in the end zone to give the Jeffs a 30-6 lead with his second touchdown of the season. He also came up with the stop when Williams failed a two-point conversion late in the third period.

An All-America selection a year ago, Ferber recorded at least one sack in seven of the team’s eight games this year. He finished his senior season as the NESCAC’s leader in sacks and will be among the national leaders in sacks per game when the NCAA report is published next week. The All-Conference Team will be announced this Thursday, as Ferber will hope to make a second appearance on the First Team.
