Marascio, Bierbach help Riverboats to 14-9 win in first Hansen Bowl

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming College football seniors Anthony Marascio (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) and Ray Bierbach (Hunlock Creek, Pa./Northwest Area) helped the Riverboats to a 14-9 win over the Pony Express in the first Hansen Bowl at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex on Monday, Jan. 16.

Marascio led all defensive players with six tackles and one sack in the senior all-star game named after the founder of the Don Hansen Football Gazette. The game featured players from the NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA. Bierbach added one tackle for the Riverboats.

The Pony Express built up a 9-0 lead in the first three quarters of the game before former West Virginia Wesleyan quarterback Adam Neugebauer tossed two fourth-quarter touchdowns to lift the Riverboats to the 14-9 win.

Bierbach and Marascio each earned the right to play in the game when they were named USA College Football Network Preseason All-Americans along with offensive lineman Tim Okken (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley). Both Bierbach and Marascio earned All-American honors this season.

The game was taped by Cox Communications and will be tape-delay broadcasted throughout the country beginning on Thursday, Jan. 19. Check your local listings to see if the game will be available in your area.

The Warriors finished 8-2 overall and 6-2 in the MAC to finish in a tie for second in the MAC with Widener. The Warriors racked up their best record since the 2003 team finished 9-2 overall.
