Marascio, Bierbach help Riverboats to 14-9 win in first Hansen Bowl

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming College football seniors Anthony Marascio (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) and Ray Bierbach (Hunlock Creek, Pa./Northwest Area) helped the Riverboats to a 14-9 win over the Pony Express in the first Hansen Bowl at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex on Monday, Jan. 16.

Marascio led all defensive players with six tackles and one sack in the senior all-star game named after the founder of the Don Hansen Football Gazette. The game featured players from the NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA. Bierbach added one tackle for the Riverboats.

The Pony Express built up a 9-0 lead in the first three quarters of the game before former West Virginia Wesleyan quarterback Adam Neugebauer tossed two fourth-quarter touchdowns to lift the Riverboats to the 14-9 win.

Bierbach and Marascio each earned the right to play in the game when they were named USA College Football Network Preseason All-Americans along with offensive lineman Tim Okken (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley). Both Bierbach and Marascio earned All-American honors this season.

The game was taped by Cox Communications and will be tape-delay broadcasted throughout the country beginning on Thursday, Jan. 19. Check your local listings to see if the game will be available in your area.

The Warriors finished 8-2 overall and 6-2 in the MAC to finish in a tie for second in the MAC with Widener. The Warriors racked up their best record since the 2003 team finished 9-2 overall.

Hansen Bowl details are coming

Im sitting in the Norfolk airport waiting to board my flight.  I wanted to post something quickly from my EVO phone before I boarded.

My apologies to all of the fans that could not travel to the game to watch.

I have requested the stats page as well as a game story from the organizers of the Bowl named after my Dad, Don Hansen.  As soon as I receive the specifics on the game which includes the player names it will be posted.

The game was extremely exciting and like I stated in a previous post; it came down to the final seconds to be decided.   When I found out the stats pages would not be available to me yesterday in order to provide the Families, Friends, SIDs, and fans the detail, I was disappointed.

I’ve talked with several players and coaches who stated the game was very exciting and enjoyable to play in.  They are looking forward to receiving information about how to get their hands on the DVD of the game and know when and where the game will be broadcast.

Again, I wish I had the specifics right now to give you.  That is out of my hands, but I will make sure to get it to you as soon as possible.

I just want to publicly say that I am very grateful and thankful for the players going on the field and giving it their all!

They are calling for me to board.  Please check back.
