Kansas City, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has officially announced the teams and pairings for the 2011 NAIA Football Championship Series (FCS). Sixteen teams will play at eight First Round sites on Nov. 19.   The quarterfinal pairings, to be played on Nov. 26, will be announced on Nov. 20.

The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference is represented in the NAIA Football Playoffs by #10 Ottawa University (9-2, 9-0).  The Braves will travel to Azusa, California to take on #8 Azusa Pacific. The Cougars qualify as the highest-ranked team in the Independent Group and host it’s first FCS game since 2005.  Azusa Pacific boasts a 6 – 2 home field playoff record, where as Ottawa is 0 – 4 in road playoff games.

Azusa Pacific has not lost to a NAIA program this year, with the two setbacks coming against NCAA Division I San Diego and NCAA Division II Lindenwood (Mo.).   After two-straight losses to start the year against Top-25 teams, Ottawa has won their last nine, all of their wins have been at least by 13 points.  This playoff appearance is Azusa Pacific’s 8th, they have a playoff record of 8 – 6.  The Cougars won the championship in 1998.  Ottawa enters the playoffs for the 3rd straight year (6th overall), they have a postseason record of 1 – 5.

Seven of the eight FCS First Round games will mark the first postseason meetings between the two teams. Carroll and Valley City State are the only teams that have met previously in FCS action. The Fighting Saints won First Round meetings on the road in 2000 and at home in 2001.

The 56th Annual Russell Athletic-NAIA Football National Championship is scheduled for Dec. 17 in Rome, Ga. Rome-Floyd County and Shorter (Ga.)
