PSAC Athletes of the Week – Oct. 30

(Week 9)

PSAC East Offensive Player of the Week
Mike Frenette, Shippensburg
RB, Jr., Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley

Frenette ran for a career-high 177 yards on just 18 carries (9.8 ypc) and two touchdowns to lead Shippensburg to a 40-0 win over Millersville. His rushing total marked the most by a Red Raider back in two years. He scored on runs of 71 and 37 yards. His first TD run from 71 opened the scoring midway through the first quarter and his second run from 37 came early in the third quarter and gave the Raiders a 33-0 lead. Frenette also caught a pass for 11 yards, giving him 188 all-purpose yards in the game. His rushing helped the Raiders accumulate 391 yards on the ground, the fourth-highest single-game total in school history.

PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week
Brian Sourber, Shippensburg
LB, Fr., Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township

Sourber recorded eight tackles, including three for a loss (totaling 13 yards) and a sack (for a loss of nine yards), and also make an interception (returning it 26 yards), and broke up a pass to help lead Shippensburg to a 40-0 win over Millersville. Sourber, who was making just his third career start after replacing one of the team’s captains who is out for the year with an injury, helped his team record its first shutout since 2009 as the Red Raiders held the Marauders to just 62 yards of total offense.

PSAC West Offensive Player of the Week
David Bostic, Edinboro
WR, Sr., Tavares, Fla./Tavares

In what was likely the final home game of his career, Bostic broke two school records and tied another with 13 receptions for 255 yards and three touchdowns to help the Fighting Scots top Lock Haven 42-7. His receptions and receiving yard total are new school records and are also the highest single-game totals in the PSAC this year in both categories. He caught TD passes of 19, 41, and 74 yards, tying the school record for TD receptions in a game and moving to within four total catches of the school career record with 145.

PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week
Jake Wickline, Slippery Rock
LB, Sr., Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside

Wickline earns his second West Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season after his performance helped The Rock defeat Mercyhurst 28-21 to clinch a berth in the PSAC Championship game and at least a share of the PSAC West title. Wickline made 14 tackles, including a half tackle for loss, picked off two passes and broke up another. His second interception of the day came with just :20 left to play and at the Rock 7-yard line. It effectively sealed the win as it stopped a potential game-tying drive by the Lakers after Rock had taken the lead with just :57 left and Mercyhurst had drove to the Rock 29-yard line on its ensuing possession.
