UNCP trio selected for all-star contest

NEW YORK, N.Y.– Despite the fact that fans will witness the trio play in its final home game in the Black & Gold on Saturday, the playing careers for three UNCP football players will continue for at least one more game in January.

Placekicker Taylor Baskett, wide receiver Joe Burnett and running back Travis Daniels have accepted invitations to participate in the 2012 Hansen Senior Bowl in Virginia Beach, Va., at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. The game will be played as part of a doubleheader with the Lombardi Bowl – an NCAA-sanctioned game for Football Championship Subdivision players – on Jan.16.

The Hansen Bowl, Inc. staff has combined the three levels of small college football into one senior all-star event this year in memory of the late Don Hansen who covered these levels of college football for more than three decades. Recognized by the national sports media as the official NCAA-compliant and NAIA-approved senior all-star football game for student/athletes from small colleges, the Hansen Bowl game ball will be permanently displayed at the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Ind., along with the Official Event Program.
