Wells garners GNAC Defensive Player of the Week

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Western Oregon’s Devin Wells claimed the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in the Wolves’ 40-28 win over Dixie State.

Wells, a 6-2 linebacker from Beaverton, Ore. (Southridge HS) had eight tackles, including a nine-yard quarterback sack at Dixie’s four-yard line to set up a safety on the next play. Wells combined with Levi Smith for the sack, which came with the Wolves trailing 14-7 in the third quarter. Beginning with the safety, WOU scored 19 consecutive points to take control of the contest. Wells’ sack was one of seven Western Oregon had on the day.

The Western Oregon football team will go out of conference this week to take on Montana. The Grizzlies are a member of NCAA Division I-AA and are currently ranked No. 9 in the country.
